A 38-YEAR-old truck driver who is accused of the kidnapping and rape of a six-year-old Montclair girl will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court this morning, Tuesday, 18 March.

He is charged with three counts of rape, attempted murder and kidnapping. The young child was kidnapped in Clairwood while on her way home on Monday, 10 March and was found in a bush along Edwin Swales Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning, 11 March.

A breakthrough was made in the case after Brighton Beach Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit interviewed trucking companies in the area. The man’s employer confirmed he had found items belonging to the victim in one of his trucks. The man confessed to the crime when he was interviewed by police, at his place of employment in Phoenix.
