Youth to participate in port debate

SDCEA hosts a series of workshops next week.

THE South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) hosts a series of events from 14 to 16 July aimed at educating and inspiring South Durban.

On Monday, 14 July an energy and recycling workshop will be on offer to teach the community about sustainable living, including the benefits of cleaner energy and recycling. Tuesday, 15 July sees the floor open up to youngsters in a youth debate on the proposed port developments. The debate will involve groups of youngsters representing each of the stakeholders in the development, including the government, industry, NGOs and the community.

A third workshop focuses on air quality on Wednesday, 16 July with an emphasis on the struggle with chemical emissions in the area. Those present will also learn how to log complaints.

All workshops will take place at the Austerville civic centre from 10am to 1pm. Call SDCEA’s Eunice on 031-461-1991 for information.
