Fundraiser to help Bluff boy fight cancer
Bluff people rally to help a young boy fight cancer through fundraising.
COMMUNITY members are responding to the call over social media to raise funds to help young Bluff boy, Keagan Herbst, who has cancer.
Local residents, who are aware of his plight, have urged businesses and other residents to heed their call and donate what they can for a fundraising event scheduled for Saturday, 31 January.
According to reports, the 12-year-old had a malignant growth behind his bladder and underwent chemotherapy for 18 months before being told it had gone into remission. However, a recent follow-up revealed the cancer had returned, larger than before.
In a message sent out on Facebook and other platforms, Fynnland Combined Sports Club manager, Carol Statt said Keagan, who was a junior soccer player at the club, is on medication that costs about R1,350 per three millilitres and has to be taken four times per day, but his parent’s medical aid and funds have been depleted.
“We are pleading to all companies on the Bluff to assist us with our fundraiser,” said Statt. The event will be held at Fynnland Combined Sport Club from noon to 10pm on 31 January. Anyone wanting to assist or donate should call Shaun Venter on 061-466-3081 or Belinda Bezuidenhout on 079-033-9763.
