BRIGHTON Beach SAPS launched a gun violence awareness campaign on Monday, 11 May by handing out brochures at local malls.
According to Brighton Beach SAPS media officer, Captain Louise Le Roux, firearms have become the favourite choice of weapon during acts of violence in the area.
She added that guns are often stolen from legal owners during attacks.
“A further focus area of the gun violence prevention campaign includes the use of firearms behind closed doors by both legal and illegal firearm owners, who use guns to intimidate, harass, assault and commit domestic violence and murder,” said Capt Le Roux.
She urged anyone with information on those breaking the laws of the Firearms Control Act to SMS the crime hotline on 32211, go to www.crimeline.co.za or call Crime Stop on 086-001-0111.
