QUICK action by Brighton Beach SAPS officers led to the recovery of stolen items, some of which had not yet been reported stolen in the early hours of Tuesday, 9 June.
Warrant Officer Barnard and Constable Lesole went in search of stolen goods after a house was broken into on Torquay Avenue on the Bluff. The owner was able to assist through tracking software in his stolen iPad.
The iPad, along with a laptop, wallet and other items stolen from the home were tracked down at the corner of Vimy Avenue and Lighthouse Road. Two backpacks and a plasma TV were found next to the wall of a house. Police also found items not belonging to the Torquay Avenue home owner inside the bags.
When they returned to the station, a second report of housebreaking came in from Brixham Avenue. The items listed as stolen were the same as those found in the backpacks. The home-owner was able to prove ownership of the items and they were handed back to him.
Both home-owners thank the officers for recovering their personal belongings as they were not insured. Brighton Beach SAPS management commends the officers for their prompt response. “It pleases Brighton Beach SAPS to know we have responsible residents who do not take the law into their own hands by pursuing criminals that have invaded their privacy, and thus putting their lives at risk. Asking for police back-up was the responsible and safe thing to do, and we thank the community member for placing his trust in our members,” said Brighton Beach SAPS communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.
