Domestic funeral cost con

Police warn residents to beware.

FRAUDSTERS in the Brighton Beach policing area are targeting homeowners who employ in-house workers.

“Homeowners who employ domestic workers and gardeners are to take note,” said Brighton Beach SAPS communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.

The scam artists call to say the worker has died and they request a financial donation often up to R2,000 for funeral expenses and a bank account number is given for the money.

“When the domestic worker or gardener is contacted, they will find their employee has not passed on,” warned Capt Le Roux.
