Taps cut at night in the latest drought-fighting measure

The municipality believes this intervention will be sufficient

NIGHTLY water restrictions are now in force in the eThekwini Municipality.

Due to the ongoing drought and low rainfall predictions, the municipality instituted water restrictions to areas supplied by the Midmar and Albert Falls Dam systems from Friday, 22 April.

Water supply will be limited from 9pm and to 4am in Cato Ridge, Chatsworth, Clermont, Durban North, Georgedale, Hammarsdale, KwaDabeka, KwaMashu, KwaXimba, Newlands, Ntuzuma, Pinetown, Queensburgh, Reservoir Hills, Salem, Shongweni, Umbumbulu, Umhlanga, Umlazi, Verulam, Westville and parts of Folweni.

The municipality believes this intervention will be sufficient, however it has not ruled out the possibility of limiting water supply during the day if the situation is not resolved.

Pressure reduction, installation of water meter restrictors, fines and penalties for those with high water usage have also been implemented to reduce water usage.
