Homeowner stabs burglar

Montclair SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

A HOME invader met his match when a Woodhaven resident stabbed him as he defended his home on Tuesday, 6 November.

A gang of criminals gained access to Woodhaven home through the roof in broad daylight.

The owner who was at home at the time, heard movement on the roof and ran to the kitchen where he grabbed a knife. “The housebreakers broke through the ceiling and entered the home. The resident stabbed one of the intruders on the shoulder before the gang tied him up and ransacked the home for valuables. They fled with a television, cellphones, iPads, a laptop, jewellery, gate remotes, keys and other valuables,” said Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson.Montclair SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

Jackson advised residents to install external beams and infrared detectors in the roof of their homes for an early warning system.

“Installing beams in the garden and securing the perimeter of your property with an electric fence linked to your home alarm system buys time in an emergency and allows you to lock yourself and your family in a safe room in your home. If you are only alerted to the presence of an intruder once they have starting breaking into your home you have far less time to get to safety and call for help,” Jackson said.
