Library robbed of computers

The loss of the equipment will seriously hamper service delivery

The staff at Montland library arrived to work on Thursday morning, 15 December to find three computers, a keyboard and scanner were stolen.

Librarian, Lionel Reddy said he was alerted by the security company at about 6am that the library had been broken into. “The staff secured the library the night before and it is believed the criminals broke in at about 5.10am the next morning. When I arrived at work, I noticed the items missing from the front desk. More would have been stolen if the alarm didn’t go off or if the security guard didn’t walk past. The loss of this equipment will seriously hamper service delivery to the patrons as we are working with just one computer at present. Added security measures have since been put in place,” said Reddy.

Montclair SAPS communications officer, Cpt Dereck Vijiam said: “The librarian locked and closed the library and activated the alarm on Wednesday. When he returned to work the next morning, he found the premises had been broken into.”

He noticed the door was the point of entry as it was broken. On further inspection he discovered three computer flat screens were missing. “He viewed the CCTV footage and saw four men entered the mall and broke the library door,” added Cpt Vijiam.
