The staff shared the importance of putting the cellphone down and taking the time to read a book that would help them unwind from the everyday hustle and bustle of life from school, teachers and parents and provide an escape into an amazing imaginative world.

“The unmatched value of reading cannot be emphasised enough in our young children. As the library staff, we take it upon ourselves to visit schools and educate and motivate children while they are still young, that they need to make every day reading a high priority. The more children pick up a book, the more knowledge they absorb, and knowledge is important in all aspects of life. Another aim of the visit was to get the learners to know and understand how the library works, from how to register to become a member, the different types of books available to them and other services available to them such as the computers and internet which comes in handy when doing research for school projects. Even in the times of this new digital age, a wealth of knowledge and inspiration is available at our local library at no cost,” said Montlands Library librarian, Lionel Reddy.

Prabashni Govender told learners how they can become members of the library and borrow up to five books every two weeks. Luleka Memela informed the youngsters on the availability of computers and the internet at the library and answered all the tech savvy questions from the curious minds. The children enjoyed the educational visit while learning and interacting with the staff.
