Ward 68 War Room honours members

Ward 68 War Room leaders hosted a special awards ceremony for key stakeholders, partners and community members for the contribution they made to uplifting the community.

THE YEAR ended with a lovely function hosted by the ward 68 War Room leadership at Austerville Community Hall where gratitude was shown to key stakeholders, partners and community members for the contribution they had made to uplifting the community.

In his opening remarks, outgoing War Room Convenor, Pastor Earl Wilkinson recalled the early days of the inception of the war room. He remembered the difficulties, suspicion and uncertainties of the time. He was pleased to say that the War Room had grown in leaps and bounds, with many successful projects under its’ belt.

Among those acknowledged on the day, was Tom Butterworth from the Blue Roof Life Space. Wilkinson thanked the Zoe-Life organisation for making the Blue Roof Space open and accessible to the community.

Sister Renette Rokruge from the Wentworth Gateway Clinic praised God and the leadership of the War room for the sterling job that they had done in challenging members like herself for taking ownership for the community problems and issues. Roskruge, since her involvement with the War Room has been able to set up an NGO that works with addiction amongst the youth in the area.

Neil Axford War Room secretary placed on record his gratitude to the municipal departments such as South Durban Basin Area Based Management (SDB ABM), Parks and DSW (among others) who had gone the extra mile in improving service delivery in Ward 68.

“We are proud to say that one of the flag ship programmes that emerged from the War room, co-ordinated by the SDB ABM is the Adopt a Spot Programme. With partners like The Voice Wentworth, Gael Meek-Baltimore and Neil Axford we have been able to rally departments like Parks and DSW and make this project a success,” said Eurakha Singh, Senior Manager at SDB ABM.

Ward champion, Councillor Aubrey Snyman, congratulated all awardees and thanked them for their service to the ward.
