Quins breeze through weekend games
Medium-pacer, Heath Manicom was splendid in his 8 overs, bowling with accuracy captured 2 wickets for just 18 runs in 8 overs.
FIVE of Harlequins cricket teams were engaged in league matches last weekend.
The first team posted a well below par target of 125 runs in batting-friendly conditions on a well-compacted wicket at Harlequins, being dismissed in the 44th over. Quins top-order batsmen performed admirably with Heath Manicom top-scoring with 41 runs, Brandon de Mellion made 15 runs, Sheldon Spindler got 27 runs and Kevin Kettle a dozen runs.
Due to the non-availability of a number a regular players, Quins had a surplus of tail-end batsmen who were unable to cope and succumbed in a flash. In response, East Coast lost six wickets for 39 runs.
However, Quins’ trio of spin bowlers were ineffectual and were unable to add significant value to the overall bowling attack allowing East Coast’s middle-order to consolidate their innings and take their team through to a victory by four wickets. Fast bowler Kettle captured two top-order batsmen for 20 runs in 9 overs.
Medium-pacer, Manicom was splendid in his 8 overs, bowling with accuracy captured 2 wickets for just 18 runs in 8 overs. Right arm orthodox slow bowler, Eric Cavanagh, took one wicket for 14 off 2 overs.
After topping their 40-over division 2 league, the second team played their first T20 group match against Silver Saints 2 at Lt King Park. Marc Len Ferna de la Motta top scored with 48 runs, Kalvin Venter was undefeated on 44 runs and Mubeen Noorgat was not out on 33 when Quins two completed their 20 over innings with the total on 206 for 4 wickets.
In response, Silver Saints only managed to compile a century in 20 overs losing 8 wickets. Quins 2 won by 106 runs. Harlequins 6 won the toss and decided to bat first on a well-prepared Danville Park wicket. After losing the openers cheaply, schoolboy Tyler Jordan (50) and Dylan Jenkins (19) combined to put on 62 in 7 overs.
Further contributions from Justin Barnes (16) and “Woody” Wood (27*) allowed Quins 6 to score an imposing 147/7 in their 20 overs. Tight bowling from all the bowlers – only 5 boundaries were scored by DHS Rhythm 8 – combined with good fielding including 2 direct hit run outs by Dylan Jenkins, meant that DHS were never in the game.
They eventually completed their innings on 97/7 in 20 overs which gave Quins 6 a 50 run win. Best of the bowlers were Tyler Jordan 2/11 off 3 overs and Clinton Jenkins 1/7 off 2 overs.
The third side lost to Crusaders 3 at Crusaders by 150 runs. Crusaders amassed 298 runs in 30 overs losing 4 wickets in their endeavour. Right arm wrist spinner, Brett Williams, captured two wickets for 60 runs in 6 overs. He also scored 47 runs, Pierre Horn scored 34 runs and Cole Brady made 37 runs.
The fourth team had a sensational victory over ACC at Harlequins 2 field in a 30 over Division 3 match. Quins set a target of 182 runs losing all their wickets within 30 overs. Terrence Hook and Clint Abrahams scored 38 and 35 respectively.
Mike Hastings got 20 and Troy van Zyl scored 17 runs. Despite an ACC opening batsman getting 105 runs with ACC 6 wickets down the visiting team failed by a single run to tie the match. Quins 4 won by one run.
