Montclair SAPS new station commander plans to enhance predecessor’s service
Colonel Trevor Small thanked the station's former commander, Colonel Vorster, for his service to the community.
THE new station commander at Montclair police station plans on enhancing police visibility in the area as a crime deterrent to would-be criminals. Colonel Trevor Bradley Small joins the local stable coming from Chatsworth SAPS having served 33 years in the service. His philosophy of policing is that it only works best when the public and various stakeholders work hand-in-hand with the police and as such, his priority is to strengthen these relationships.
“I believe that every member at Montclair SAPS plays an integral part in the organisation. As a seasoned member of the police, I believe that teamwork can make any dream work. As a team, I hope to enhance visible policing in the area. I believe that it is impossible for police alone to win this war against crime therefore stakeholders play a pivotal role in this fight. I have met with the CPF chairman whom I believe is the cornerstone to policing,” he said.
The family orientated officer who describes himself as a “teachable spirit which is God ordained” is married and has two children. He is also just as passionate about sports with soccer, tennis and swimming being his top three. “I have achieved success with soccer and tennis within the SAPS and externally.”
“Although, the life of a police officer in a command position is challenging, I have to strike a balance with work, my family and sport. I also enjoy listening to music which is a helpful stress reliever. I hope to use my skill as a soccer and tennis player to empower the youth in the community as one of my interactions with the community.”
He thanked the station’s former commander, Colonel Rian Vorster, for his service to the community.
“He leaves behind a legacy which I can only enhance to serve with the integrity of heart. He has been a diligent servant of the people and the personnel for 34 years, 15 of which were in Montclair. I wish him well on his well earned retirement. I know that he has groomed many officers as well as able personnel at the station which is going to make my transition as the station commander much easier.”
