Brighton Beach FCS launch 16 Days of Activism campaign
The initiative formed part of the unit’s 16 Days of Activism campaign.
BRIGHTON Beach Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) embarked on a public education and awareness initiative within the Brighton Beach policing precinct on Thursday, 26 November.
The acting unit commander, Captain Roshni Inderh and her team embarked on a brochure campaign at the La Lucia Informal Settlement in Clairwood.
The educational literature in the form of informative guides on domestic violence, child protection and sexual assault and violation were distributed to residents and visitors.
These brochures were researched and developed by Brighton Beach SAPS’ corporate communications officer, Captain Louise le Roux. The members engaged residents and visitors on the content of these educational brochures in isiZulu and English.
“The team also utilised the event to educate children on the Covid-19 compliance regulations. Through the use of visual aids, the team reinforced the importance of washing and sanitising hands, the utilisation of a mask when occupying public spaces and applying social distancing. The children were also educated on stranger danger,” said Captain Le Roux.
Captain Inderh thanked her colleagues for their enthusiasm displayed during the event. She said partnering with various role players and the teamwork displayed they were able to present a valuable educational programme to the residents and youth of the La Lucia Informal Settlement.
“Acting station commander for Brighton Beach, Lt-Col Sinayo Mtshali and her Vispol team, including the contributions made by the division corporate communications of SAPS Brighton Beach were highly appreciated. We also acknowledge the contributions from the business sector SSSL Automation, Sanitech Jacobs, Kimesh Trucking and Ray Ahmed who partnered with the FCS Unit to gift toys and sweet treats to the children on the day,” said Captain Inderh.
