School uniform donation makes a difference

The donation was made possible through the intervention of the SAPS with the Chatsworth based communications officer, Captain Cheryl Pillay being instrumental in the procurement.

ONE hundred children received an early Christmas present in the form of school uniforms.

Courtesy of Honda Motors SA based in Gauteng, parents of learners at Collingwood Primary School in Wentworth will have one less thing to worry about regarding their children’s education.

The donation was made possible through the intervention of the SAPS with the Chatsworth based communications officer, Captain Cheryl Pillay being instrumental in the procurement.

Wentworth and Montclair police were also part of the initiative. The prize-giving ceremony was held on Wednesday, 25 November at the Durban Christian Centre in Wentworth and was used to launch the 16 Days of Activism campaign against the abuse of women and children. Organisations Women’s Network and Men for Change lent a hand in the project’s success.

“In support of the SAPS Schools Project, police have undertaken to assist Collingwood Primary School. During the heavy storms in April 2017, the school which is in heart of Wentworth, suffered major damages.”

“The roof of the building was blown off leaving the children to have their classes in temporary prefab buildings. Durban weather conditions also have an adverse effect on these young children. This saddened the hearts of many police officers which resulted in them adopting the school,” said Captain Pillay.

She added that Honda SA swiftly heeded the call and that their pledge has sown a seed of blessings into the lives of the future generation.

The deputy principal at Collingwood Primary School, Helen Greeves expressed her appreciation for the sponsorship. She referred to the police as angels directed by God to assist the school.

The police also addressed the plague of drugs and gangsterism in Wentworth with the reassurance of their commitment to addressing the root causes of crime.

These will be implemented through prevention initiatives in the Wentworth Policing Precinct and surrounding areas. Wentworth’s CPF chairman, pastor Donovan Anderson, and pastor Takalani Mufamadi were present to lead with inspiring words of wisdom and faith.

“This random act of kindness will remain embedded in the hearts of the children, educators and the families from Wentworth. This year has been challenging to the world where we have seen the devastating effect that Covid-19 has brought upon the world.”

“In the midst of this pandemic, we see the hand of the Lord moving over Collingwood Primary School. This should reassure the people of Wentworth, God is in control over the area. We need to stand as a collective both in prayer and physically join police in taking back the streets of Wentworth,” Captain Pillay added.
