The club will host its annual Brighton tennis tournament on Sunday, 6 December.

BRIGHTON Tennis Club has been abuzz with racket fun.

Junior and adult coaching has been carrying on since non-contact sports was allowed back at the end of June. The club will host its annual Brighton tennis tournament on Sunday, 6 December.

Training hard is Tristan Horsley.

“This is a mixed doubles tournament and has been done annually for many years. Players from different clubs around Durban participate. We have had to limit the number of players and spectators because of Covid-19. We are grateful that we are allowed to have this tournament as it is a much needed fundraiser for the club. The tournament was in doubt because of the pandemic but luckily we have moved to level one and tournaments are allowed with a few restrictions,” shared Brighton Tennis Club manager, Natalie Grandin.

Junior players from U12 to open have also participated in recent tournaments held in Durban. Brighton Tennis Clubs’ U18 Craig Simes and Chad Streak participated in the singles and doubles events.

“They did very well in the doubles event, losing in the semi-finals in a nail biter third set. The tournaments for the younger age groups are called ‘lollipop tournaments’ and a few our children participated, they all had fun which is the main thing.” Brighton club social tennis is held on a Tuesday and Thursday morning from 8:30am onwards and Saturday afternoon from 1pm.

Impact Tennis Academy takes place every Wednesday and Friday at the club, where coaches offer lessons for beginners. “We have players from as young three-years-old to adults. Groups and private lessons are available. We cater for all ages and abilities.”

Courts are available for hire for parties and functions. For more information send an email to Natalie Grandin at durbschic81@aol.com
