VIDEO: Multi-talent to release new music
As an AFDA graduate who majored in music performance, Roshanda is well versed in music biology, light, staging, music theory and production.
EXPECT to hear more music this year from Bluff-based singer-songwriter Roshanda Lewis.
Having graced local stages, the 22-year-old says she is ready to take bolder strides in her career. She describes her sound as “an amalgamation of everything that I grew up listening to with a heavy influence of R&B, called alternative R&B”.
But before the “long overdue” extended play (EP) is released, a few ends need a nip and tuck.
“My goal this year is to register my company in order to release an EP I worked on two years ago. It’s long overdue. I will also put more focus on my well-being as I tend to be eager to help others, but neglect myself a bit. I would also like to focus more on my guitar playing, which is not that bad, but there’s always room for improvement,” said the young talent.

Her other claim to fame was in 2017, when she was chosen from 40 hopefuls in an open audition to play the coveted title role in KickstArt’s annual festive season family pantomime, Cinderella.
“It was a wonderful experience. I met loads of passionate and beautiful people who taught me a lot about the world of theatre. I became even more passionate about musical theatre and saw a future in it as well. It taught me that I was capable of doing more and to doubt myself a little less.”
While lockdown dampened the young musician’s performance plans last year, the silver lining was being able to dedicate more time to her craft.
“Not being able to perform either solo or with the band, I’m apart of, Indeep, meant that I didn’t get much of an income, so I had to resort to other means of work. It, however, gave me more time to focus on my craft by writing and composing more than I had when life was what we knew as normal.”
On the growing numbers of Covid-19 infections, this is what she had to say, “The virus has taught us to be more considerate of others. If we don’t adhere to the regulations, then we are putting other people’s lives at risk. I also fear that if we don’t take the necessary precautions, we’re going to run out of resources. Staying home is the best solution because less movement means that the virus won’t be able to spread as rapidly.”
