SDCEA celebrates unwavering dedication of women
SDCEA honoured all women who continue to do their part in helping the organisation grow from strength to strength.
As part of International Women’s Day observed on Monday, 8 March, the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) celebrated and honoured all the women who have contributed towards fighting for a better environment for all.
“We appreciate all those who have been active in the struggle regarding human rights and environmental justice. We honour the women who have made an important contribution within our communities. An example of an honourable woman is the late Zakia Khan who was a committed SDCEA member for over 20 years representing the Isipingo area and played a pivotal role in the growth of the SDCEA. She served as vice chair of the organisation for a year and was a member for 20 years and also worked as a teacher and an HOD of Reunion Secondary school.
“We are also grateful for the women in the SDCEA steering committee and staff members who continue to do their part in helping our organisation grow today,” said SDCEA media and communications officer, Joanne Groom.
“Behind every successful woman is a tribe of other successful women, who have her back. Let us continue to encourage and inspire our fellow women in our community to continue striving for greatness and working together to create a happier and healthier environment for us all,” said former SDCEA intern Reshantha Moodley.
