Wentworth Bowling Club’s Troy and Eileen claim the trophies

Next weekend will see the first side travel to Durban Wanderers and the second side to Westville Country Club to contest the next round of the league, while the third side will host another le Domaine side at home.

THE finals of Wentworth Bowling Club’s (WBC) singles competitions have been played and Troy Garland and Eileen du Plessis outlasted the opposition to claim the trophies for 2021 and the right to represent the club in the Port Natal Champion of Champions competition in August.

Easter Monday was a day of fun and laughter at the club when a host of members and friends took to the greens in an endeavour to win Easter eggs for touchers.

In a day where everyone is a winner and gets a prize, over 80 eggs were awarded to those who managed to touch the jack. After the bowls everyone enjoyed a build a burger lunch and live music from Craig Nash.

Friday, 9 April, proved to be a successful morning’s outing for Errol Pienaar, Gees Dennis and Albert van Niekerk, when they took the top spot with a commendable plus 15 in the Tomasina men’s casual bowls.

In second spot were Lew Scrooby, Herbie Roux and Johan Nel. Nico Heymans, Dave Carroll and Tim Aitken finished the morning’s play with the sportsmen’s prize. Visitor, Mark Russel-Boulton made a lucky purchase on the raffle sheet and took home a substantial pork roast. The spoils from the 60/ 40 boards were shared by Maria Cavanagh, Graham Bransby, Ori Harripersadh and Gwen Tait.

On Saturday morning, 10 April, a group of bowlers were treated to a coaching session from Bowls South Africa national coach and selector, Susan Nel, who worked with them on delivery, line and weight control.

The afternoon saw the playing of the first round of the men’s inter-club league for 2021. The first and second side played at home against Westville Country Club and le Domaine respectively. The first side managed to gain eight and a half of the available 12 points for the game and the second side two and a half points. The third played away and managed to accumulate four points for their efforts.

Next weekend will see the first side travel to Durban Wanderers and the second side to Westville Country Club to contest the next round of the league, while the third side will host another le Domaine side at home.

The women’s team will start their drawn trips competition at 1.30pm on Saturday, 17 April, while the men compete in their league games.
