#YouthDay: ANC commemorates day through sports in Montclair

Many residents were out in numbers to support and enjoy the day's festivities.

MEMBERS of the ANC’s ward 64 branch hosted a Youth Day through Sports in Montclair on Wednesday, 16 June.

Bodies were kept busy and a fun time was part of the day’s festivities. The Montclair Sports Grounds event hosted four sporting codes: soccer, netball, aerobics, and ingenious games.

Many residents were out in numbers to support and enjoy the day’s festivities. The ANC’s youth league and branch chairperson for ward 64, Simphiwe Mzimba said the day was to remember the trailblazers.

“We gathered to celebrate this historic day, remembering the youth of 1976. We know that the youth of that era took to the streets to voice out their unhappiness about what was happening back then.”

“The demonstrations that they showed at that time did not go unnoticed because there are now certain freedoms that the youth of today now enjoy.”

“For instance, today we are able to have a sports day in Montclair, something that was not allowed back then. We saw it fit as young people to gather at the sports grounds to celebrate this historic event,” he said.
