Temporary relief at the pumps soon

Rising costs of fuel have placed a huge hole in motorists' pockets but with possible reductions and temporary relief that could change.

MOTORISTS have been bearing the brunt of rising costs as the petrol price reached record highs in October. This is set to change as the general fuel levy will be reduced by R3 per litre for diesel and R1.50 per litre for petrol from tomorrow (November 4).

Fuel levy reduction

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana made the announcement at the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) in Parliament. The reduction is set to take effect from tomorrow until December 1.

“Thereafter, the relief will continue at a lower amount until January 5, 2027. The diesel levy will be reduced by R1.50 per litre, and the petrol levy by R1 per litre,” said Godongwana.

More relief possibly coming

The latest findings from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) shows that prices could drop by up to 50 cents for 95 Unleaded and 93 cents for 93 Unleaded and diesel price reductions of R1.58 for 500ppm and R1.68 for 50ppm are likely.

If all goes as predicted, motorists will pay around R28.96 at the coast. Diesel is also predicted to fall below R30 per litre, at around R29.50 for 500ppm and around R30.25 for 50ppm.
