As a response to the spate of protests and looting in the province, the roadblocks are to ensure that these areas are secured.

Community members are seen in solidarity to blockade Hillside Mall on the Bluff.

Community activist, Tracey Williams said the looting creates a lot of anxiety and stress within the communities. “It has, however, created unity among the leaders who are all out and helping where they can. We’ve asked people to not forward old videos and also to keep a calmness among us,” she said. All entrances and exit points, she added, have been closed off in the communities Bluff, Merebank and Wentworth.

“We encourage you to stock up with water, flour, yeast and candles. There is absolutely no bread deliveries today and probably for the next few days,” Tracey advised.
