YWPPS leaders take the helm

Yellowwood Park Primary School (YWPPS) announced their prefect leadership for the year recently.

AT the end of August 2021 Yellowwood Park Primary School (YWPPS) announced their prefect leadership for the year.

Adhering to strict Covid-19 protocols, the school maintains their biweekly attendance for the safety of their learners and staff. They have thus selected prefects for both groups of learners attending school on alternate weeks.

Jade Dicken (deputy head prefect), Aphiwe Cele (head prefect), Dredyn Chetty (deputy head Prefect), Liyanda Memani (head prefect).

As Nelson Mandela once said, “A leader is like a shepherd. He stays behind the flock, letting the most nimble go ahead, whereupon the others follow, not realising that all along they are being directed from behind.”

Esihle Ntshingila (deputy head prefect), Iminathi Nkombi (head prefect), Langelihle Rahube (head prefect), Caleb Naidoo (deputy head prefect).

The quote holds true for the leadership skills developed in the learners at YWPPS. This is the first exposure to leadership for some learners and will likely be the first in a lifelong journey of leadership. The experiences that the prefects gain in student leadership (dealing with school management and their peers and juniors, organising events and representing their school) are great experiences for their future leadership roles in life.

“We wish to congratulate all those who are leaders of 2021. We are confident that you will be the role models to the younger learners of Yellowwood Park Primary School,” said Navi Parumaul, senior phase departmental head.
