Cllr Hegter committed to the fight for better service delivery
After working closely and extensively as a public representative, Gavin Hegter admitted that the job has come with its challenges.
GAVIN Hegter will be running for councillor in ward 64 for a second term in the upcoming government elections on Monday, November 1.
Hegter has been in office for five years and is determined to embark on a second term of service to the communities of Montclair, Woodlands, Woodhaven, Yellowwood Park, Rossbrugh and a portion of Seaview.
After working closely and extensively as a public representative he admitted that the job has come with its challenges. “Unfortunately in the last three years the standards of our municipality and the service delivery has plummeted and is in a downward spiral. In the past, a councillor could address an issue with an official or a department and it would be attended to. That no longer happens. Now every issue is a fight and involves a chase and the follow-up of basic faults. We are just not getting the service delivery that we require.
“From my side as the ward councillor, I intend to continue serving my community even with the frustration and battles to get departments to do the most basic part of their jobs,” said Hegter who also stressed the need for the community to understand the role and authority of a councillor.
“While the community may only see the degradation of the area, because of the lack of service delivery, the picture is bigger than just ‘my road or my ward’. The entire city is affected by municipal departments that are failing the people. But I can assure the people that I am fighting for the area. I grew up and live in this area and I want to make sure that it maintains a good standard. The Democratic Alliance (DA) is the only party that has shown that where we govern, we do it well. I will keep fighting and working on the ground, in council and in the committees that I sit on. I will ensure that residents of my community get the services that they deserve.”
