Donning the crown and gown

The show will grace the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from December 3 to January 10, 2027. This will be Lewis’ second time taking the role of the princess and according to her she is ready to take it to another level.

“It is always a fun challenge to step into the princess role. I am extremely excited to see how I can offer a fresh approach this time around, now that I’m more inclined on the style of panto,” she said.

A story for all

This rendition of Cinderella will retell the timeless story while offering some South African references that the audiences can definitely relate to.

“There is a pop song that people of all ages can enjoy and sing along to. For those who are not familiar to the pantomime Cinderella, there are characters, like Buttons, that are not well known in the Disney version,” she said.

Full circle

While rehearsals get underway for the show, for Lewis this production holds a lot of significance.

“It is also a full circle moment for me because this was my first panto that I ever did so, for me it’s a sign of how much I’ve grown as well,” she said.

Lewis’ love for musical theatre stemmed from growing up in a musically inclined house. She found solace and inspiration in music which extended to the theatre when she took part in school musicals.

Breaking barriers

As someone who has devoted her career to performing arts, Lewis said she is proud to be breaking societal moulds.

“I never thought it was fully possible for a coloured girl like me to actively pursue an acting career, especially in musical theatre. Growing up, I didn’t have the opportunity to see many people who looked like me on the big screens. Every time I step on stage, I hope to show other younger or even older girls that they can be anything they want to be,” said Lewis.
