WATCH: Bluff’s Mr SA hopeful dazzles at finals
Even though Rylen de Esclana did not take the crown at the competition, he believes he won a thousand times over.
ALTHOUGH Rylen de Esclana, a Mr SA hopeful, did not take the crown at the competition, he believes he won in many other ways.
“Whether I take the crown or not, I have won a thousand times over through the journey I have walked to get to this point,” he said.
The Bluff resident was among seven other contestants from the province to enter the competition. He was the only one to make it into the top 10.
For that accomplishment alone, he said he was proud to represent the Bluff and KwaZulu-Natal as well.
The event held on Saturday, November 6 at The Focus Rooms in Sandton, was also streamed online.
“I was hoping to take the crown, but I have won in my heart because of the support I received. Thank you to everyone who stood with me for something that was beyond myself,” he said.
Rylen said the number of messages he has received since the ceremony have both encouraged and inspired him. He said he felt at peace and as his mission has been accomplished.
Even though he left the venue with a pang of disappointment, he said this was not the end for him as he will venture into other spaces in the country and, eventually, the world.
“I do feel the disappointment of not placing top 3, as I am human and I know what my fight has been. But I proudly stand as KZN’s Mr South Africa 2021 and I thank everyone for that,” he said. “Even though it did not end with me wearing the crown, I have won personally.”
“Together, our voice has amplified. To God be the glory for all the things he has done. I am proud of myself, I have stayed true to myself to the very end, and have kept consistent with the mission of my life. I fully embrace the man I have become through this journey,” he added.
