Fireman electrocuted as fire guts Clairwood informal settlement
Illegal electricity connections are believed to be the reason behind the fireman's electrocution.
A FIREMAN was electrocuted while trying to help douse a fire that tore through the Clairwood informal settlement on Sidar Road yesterday (November 11).
Reports from the scene indicate that the informal settlement on Sidar Road went up in flames just after 20:00. eThekwini Fire and Rescue Services were called to the scene of the major shack fire. Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene thereafter.
According to Kyle van Reenen of Emer-G-Med, the fireman suffered from an electrocution injury due to the illegal connections in the area.
Emer-G-Med paramedics attended to the man on the scene. The fireman declined to go to the hospital.
No other injuries were reported.
