WATCH: Rapper’s new song calls for unity

The artist from Wentworth said he wrote the song two weeks before the July riots.

IN THE words of the iconic R&B singer, Beyonce Knowles, “A prayer won’t fade away”.

This phrase is beautifully encapsulated by a Wentworth rapper, who recently released a song titled PrayForSA. The hard-hitting composition is in response to the unprecedented series of events in July this year.

In an almost prophetic manner, 20-year-old Dean Adrian Vurden, penned the song down just two weeks before the riots started.

“I made sure the words sit and hit home for every South African because gang violence, looting, drugs and murder are definitely increasing. I pray this song brings the awareness that is needed,” he said.

In the recently released song, Dean or Adrian Wrldwide, his moniker, tackles social ills issues and calls for his fellow countrymen to unite.

“We’re supposed to be the Rainbow Nation, instead we look down on someone else because of their race. I don’t care if you’re black or white, I love your soul,” are some of his lyrics.

Adrian Wrldwide started writing poetry around the age of 14 as he felt the need for a creative outlet. As the years went by, he started experimenting with spoken word poetry and it evolved to music which he fell in love with.

“The fact that you can tell a story, express yourself and inspire people through music draws me to this art. The fact that my song can inspire another person also inspires me.

“Whether they are feeling down or going through hard times, they don’t need to turn to drugs or violence. There’s always a creative way to feel better and I find that really inspiring,” he said.

As a songwriter, visual artist, producer, digital illustrator and tattoo artist, he considers himself a multifaceted artist.

He would like to work with Nasty C, Hopsin, Dax and Polo G one day and many more legends in the music industry. He hopes to perform on major stages all over the world.

“For me, there isn’t an ending in music. Whether I’m performing my music on stage around the world or performing for my friends at home, I will always be in love with music and that will never change. In a more general sense, I want to reach the highest accolade possible in the industry,” he said.
