Exciting sports programme for Merebank schools on offer

The programmes are for both boys and girls and will include aspects of arts and culture as well.

EXCITING school sports programmes are in the pipeline for the Merebank portion of ward 68.

The Merebank Sporting Forum will spearhead this project and invite schools that have not signed up to do so. The group’s chairperson, Deepchund Harreeparshad, said the programmes will cater to boys and girls and will include aspects of arts and culture as well.

“We want to go about introducing all types of sports in schools. The sporting forum will be part of the sports confederation which is chaired by Carl Webster.

“An amalgamation will take place at an AGM with the confederation where some of us from the forum will be elected into it. We’re going to assist schools via the Department of Sports and Recreation,” he said.

As soccer is the most common sport played in the area, he said the forum aims to host an inter-schools open tournament.

He emphasised that principals will have to work closely with the forum for the programme to run successfully.
