Police continue search for mother of dead baby dumped in Merebank

Wentworth Police appeal to anyone with information of the whereabouts of the woman who dumped her baby on Nasik Road to come forward.

POLICE in Wentworth are urging the public to assist them with information which could lead to the whereabouts of the woman who dumped her baby on Nasik Road in Merebank.

The deceased newborn was found wrapped in a towel by a man who was picking up cans from the grassy area alongside the road on October 18.

Spokesperson for Wentworth police Captain Mbuso Gumede said the man first noticed the towel, and when he unwrapped it and found the dead baby, he went to a nearby shop and notified them of his find.

“Staff at the shop contacted Wentworth Police. An inquest docket and ’concealment of birth’ case is being investigated by detectives. We appeal to any witnesses to come forward in order to assist in this investigation,” said Gumede.
