AUSTERVILLE Library is putting out a call to retired teachers, inviting them to share their expertise and passion with the community through literacy programmes.

Dedicated to enhancing the lives of local children, the library is in search of volunteers to assist with various educational endeavours, including homework aid, learn-to-read initiatives and engaging story sessions.

Recognising the profound impact retired educators can have on young learners, the Austerville Library aims to cultivate a love for reading and learning.

Phamina Ngcobo, the coordinator of literacy programmes at Austerville Library, emphasised, “Whether dedicating a few hours each day or volunteering with a more flexible schedule, every moment and piece of knowledge contributed by retired teachers can profoundly influence the educational landscape of our community.”

Ngcobo stressed, “The expertise and commitment of teachers are invaluable assets in our mission to advance literacy and academic excellence within the community.”

She believes these programmes will enable children to grasp concepts they may find challenging in traditional school settings.
