Montclair police raise awareness on theft of motor vehicles
The surge in theft of motor vehicles in Montclair has prompted the police to embark on educational campaigns to raise awareness.
POLICE officers at the Montclair Police Station have embarked on a safety awareness initiative aimed at addressing the theft of cars, which has spiraled out of control in their policing precinct.
The members, in collaboration with the social crime-prevention unit, held an important awareness campaign focused on the theft of and out of motor vehicles in Yellowwood Park.

According to the police, the area has been identified as having a high incidence of such crimes. Sergeant Noma Mnguni, a social crime-prevention officer, said the police distributed informative pamphlets to educate the community about vehicle theft prevention.
“The initiative was prompted by numerous reported cases in the area, making it essential to engage with residents and raise awareness.
Pamphlets distributed to communities
“The presentation was well received by the community, with many expressing their appreciation for the proactive approach. Residents had the opportunity to ask questions to the police and this gave them an opportunity to exchange valuable information with the police,” said Mnguni.
After the presentation, a ‘knock and drop’ campaign was conducted. Almost 150 pamphlets were distributed to areas most affected by vehicle theft, including Montclair and Yellowwood Park.
Mnguni said the distribution of the pamphlets is aimed at reinforcing the message and providing residents with practical tips on how to protect their vehicles.
“The awareness campaign was a great success as it fostered a sense of collaboration in the fight against crime. The Montclair Police Station will continue to root out criminal elements in the area to ensure the safety and security of its residents, proving that, together, they can make a difference,” Mnguni added.
