Watch: Major power station on fire in Wentworth

Austerville, Merewent and surrounding areas are currently experiencing power outages following a major fire at the power station.

EMERGENCY services are currently at the scene at the corner of Austerville Drive in Wentworth after a power station caught fire this afternoon (April 24).

Authorities at the scene said the cause of the fire is not yet known, however, fire fighters and other emergency services are at the scene.

Spokesperson for PT Alarms Dhevan Govindasamy advised residents and motorists to use alternative routes as the roads near the power station are going to be closed.

Emergency services are at the scene on Austerville Drive, where they are working to extinguish a fire at the power station.

Ward 68 councillor Aubrey Snyman reported that large parts of Austerville and Merebank are currently experiencing power outages. The station supplies power in Jacobs, Merewent and Austerville areas.
