Changes coming to Ward 68 voting stations
This year’s local government elections will see the number of voting stations in Ward 68 decrease to eight.
THE Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) recently made several adjustments to the voting stations within Ward 68 as it prepares for the upcoming local government elections.

Reason for changes
This decision follows the Municipal Demarcation Board reintegrating the Navy area of Merebank, which had previously been moved into Ward 75 during the last elections, back into Ward 68. The return of this area necessitated a reshuffling and merging of voting stations.
The new and merged voting stations
Neil Axford, community activist, said three major changes were being made.
“Voters who previously voted at Settlers High School would now vote at Nizam Road Primary School. Residents who previously voted at Fairvale Senior Secondary School will now place their votes at Wentworth Primary School. The first new voting station is the inclusion of Ganges High School,” said Axford.

- Wentworth Secondary School
- Gardenia Primary School
- Junagarth Road Primary School
- ML Sultan St Mary’s Primary School
- Nizam Road Primary School
- Ganges Secondary School.
Date of elections
President Cyril Ramaphosa recently declared November 4 as the official date for the impending Local Government Elections. Ramaphosa said that the announcement signals the official start of the campaign period, with political parties expected to mobilise support and prepare for the polls.
He also added that it remains imperative that there is an increase in voter turnout especially among young voters.
“Voter turnout is always a concern to political parties and indeed to the State or the government because the fewer people who vote, the more we get concerned about the status of our democracy. Our task is to increase voter turnout, to get as many people as possible, especially young people, to come out, register and vote,” said Ramaphosa.
