The Clairwood Ratepayers and Residents Association is leading the picket outside the Durban Magistrate's Court.

A GROUP of angry Clairwood residents are picketing outside the Durban Magistrate’s Court today (July 14) in a bid to oppose a proposal by eThekwini Municipality to rezone the Clairwood industrial area.

The Clairwood Ratepayers and Residents Association (CRRA) is leading the picket outside court.

The CRRA and the municipality are locked in the court battle over the municipality’s amendment to the Land Use Scheme, which introduced a new Special Zone: Clairwood Logistics Park, following a council resolution on September 3, 2025.

The municipality amended its legal paperwork on September 19.

The municipality proposed a significant development scheme amendment for the Clairwood area:

  • Aiming to create a mixed-use precinct balancing logistics,
  • Social, cultural, and heritage land uses.

The proposal has drawn strong opposition from the CRRA which is calling for an immediate halt to the rezoning plans.
