Black mamba caught at Mariannhill property
Snake enthusiast from The Bluff, Warren Dick, put his sleuthing skills to use as he was called to capture a black mamba.
THE Bluff based snake catcher, Warren Dick, responded to a call on July 15, regarding a black mamba at a property in Mariannhill. The homeowner had initially spotted the reptile near a unused garden shed.

The homeowner sent a photograph to Dick, who confirmed it was a sizeable black mamba.
Upon arrival, Dick was directed to the dilapidated shed next to the main house. A young man present said that the snake had slithered onto a shelf above the shed’s entrance.
“I did not quite get the memo on where the snake was last seen, I thought it was last seen on the far side of the shelf, so that is where I concentrated on getting to. Little did I realise that the snake was actually last seen in the stuff above the entrance gate. So if the black mamba was an aggressive snake, it should of attacked me while I was standing under it,” said Dick.
Once he directed his attention to the correct spot, Dick spotted the snake. He observed the snake looking at him with its mouth open, which he interpreted as a signal to keep a distance.

Although it appeared large, Dick estimated its length to be just under two metres, which he considered to be on the smaller side for a black mamba.
The snake was safely captured and relocated, ensuring the safety of the residents, including children on the property. Dick emphasised the importance of maintaining a safe distance from snakes and contacting professionals for removal, rather than approaching them.
