Karen Janisch, one of the directors, said that the team is under significant financial pressure. They recently secured a new property intended to house all their rescue dogs together, but preparations are hindered by financial constraints.

Initially, 25 dogs were scheduled to be moved by the end of August, but this date has been moved up to the end of July, leaving the organisation with only two weeks to construct the necessary facilities.

What is needed?

To accommodate the animals deemed most at risk, the organisation needs to build 60 kennels in this timeframe.

“We have been sponsored one kennel so far, so we have R2500. We priced 1000 blocks, 6 cubes of stone, umgeni and building sand and the total sums up to R23 252. This includes delivery as well,” she said.

Hurdle to overcome

Janisch said that the economy is very difficult for a lot of people and for the organisation to get this far, is only through the support of the community.

“Too many people have stood by us; our community has fought for us and most importantly each of our dogs love and trust us. How can we let them down?” said Janisch.

Support the kennel project

The organisation is appealing to individuals and businesses that are able to assist in funding the construction of some of the kennels.

To support the Blue Bundu Brigade’s kennel-building project, donations can be made to Blue Bundu Brigade’s FNB account, account number: 63129 488 284. The reference should include “Kennels” and the donor’s cellphone number. Email your proof of payment to bluebundubrigade@gmail.com, so the organisation can express their thanks as well as issue any Section 18a forms.
