Arcadia seniors pampered to perfection

The senior residents of Arcadia Retirement Village were treated to some lovely pampering spoils from the BRRA and Trinity Family Church.

RESIDENTS at Arcadia Retirement Village enjoyed new hairdos and a fresh set of painted nails at a special pamper day at the home on July 11.

The event, a collaboration between the Bluff Ratepayers and Residents Association (BRRA), Trinity Family Church and local community members, aimed to honour the elderly residents and just bring a smile to their faces.

Allison Schoeman, the BRRA chairperson, said that the initiative stemmed from a recognition of the contributions and sacrifices of older generations.

“As life gets busier and families grow older, we sometimes forget to stop and simply say “thank you” to the people who raised us, guided us and helped shape us into who we are today. More than anything, they just want to feel seen, valued and loved, but too often we are caught up in our own busy lives. This day was about giving something back to them. It was our way of saying thank you and showing them that they are appreciated. For some, there may not even be family left to spoil them or remind them how special they are, so it was important for us to do this small act of kindness,” she said.

The day’s activities included a range of services such as haircuts, manicures, massages and health assessments, offering residents opportunities for relaxation and social interaction.

Pastor Malcolm Nair of Trinity Family Church said the church is committed to community service through acts of kindness.

“We believe that faith is demonstrated through practical acts of love and compassion. As a church we are committed to serving beyond the walls of the church and in this way, we were able to show and remind our seniors that they are loved and valued, especially since they can experience loneliness and isolation during this late age in life,” he said.

Residents from the 7th Heaven Home for the Aged also graced the event and were treated to some lovely spoils.

Dawn Solomon, chairperson of the entertainment committee at Arcadia Retirement Village, extended her thanks to the BRRA, Trinity Family Church and all contributors.

“Your kindness, generosity and willingness to give your time created a truly special and memorable event. The smiles, laughter and joy shared throughout the morning were a beautiful reminder of the power of community and caring. Our residents had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Your thoughtfulness and dedication are deeply appreciated and will be remembered with gratitude,” said Solomon.

The BRRA and Trinity Family Church aim to hold more events like this in the future.
