In a recent testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, one of the witnesses, Captain Ashley Houston, testified that the Hollywood Gang is based in Wentworth.

In a separate incident, a man believed to be linked to a gang involved in a money-dropping scam was arrested in Montclair on October 13.

The accused, Mpendulo Ngcobo (29), appeared at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on October 14 for armed robbery.

It is alleged that the accused and his accomplices, who have not yet been arrested, target unsuspecting members of the public at malls by deliberately dropping what appears to be a roll of cash on the ground to scam their victims.

According to the police, once the victim notices the money and attempts to pick it up, the suspects approach them, claiming that the money belongs to them or that they are entitled to share it.

The scammer then persuades the victim to accompany them to another location, often in a township, where they are robbed of their cash, cellphones and other valuables.

In some cases, victims are reportedly pressured into handing over their belongings or money before the suspects flee the scene.
