Wentworth police seek relatives of deceased man

Police are looking for the relatives or witnesses of a man found hanging from a tree by a rope near the M4 freeway bridge.

WENTWORTH police are searching for the relatives of a man who was found hanging from a tree near the M4 freeway bridge, in the Merebank area on December 18, at about 19:45.

Captain Mbuso Gumede, the Wentworth police spokesperson, said a man was walking along a pathway near the canal when he noticed a person hanging with a rope.

“The man then proceeded to his workplace and informed his manager, who alerted the police. The man was declared deceased by paramedics that arrived at the scene,” he said.

Gumede said the African male, who was about 25 years old, was wearing a bright blue/green T-shirt, white takkies and a blue eThekwini Municipality hat.

“The deceased is currently being kept at the Pinetown Government Mortuary for identification. The investigating officer is appealing to any witnesses of the incident or relatives to come forward,” he said.
