Being part of the esteemed Federation of Dance, Drill, Cheerleading, and Majorette Sports South Africa’s (FDDCMSA) selection for this prestigious global event speaks volumes about their unwavering dedication and unmatched skill. Sinqobile Khuboni, one of the selected coaches, said for the first time in their history, these majorettes have seized the opportunity to achieve national recognition.
“Last year, we all tried out for our FDDCMSA National Awards Trials and managed to complete them. Additionally, we were also all selected to be a part of the national team, and earlier this year, we were presented with the news that we were going to France to compete. We are proud of the girls but also each other because everyone that did attempt the National Awards Trials was selected,” said Khuboni.
Their preparations are in full swing as they pour their hearts into rigorous training sessions, determined to shine brightly amidst fierce competition. Anele Shandu, the captain of Yellowwood Park Majorettes, recalls her disbelief upon hearing the news. “I couldn’t believe the news when they told me; I was just so happy and grateful for the opportunity.”
Despite all the excitement, a daunting challenge lies ahead – the financial hurdle of funding their journey to France. Undeterred, these resilient majorettes are turning to their local community for support. With a spirit as vibrant as their routines, they’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign on Back-a-Buddy, rallying for contributions from individuals and businesses alike.
