Fynnland junior soccer players shoot for the stars at prize-giving

The Fynnland Junior Soccer Club hosted their annual prize-giving ceremony to recognise some of the top talent of the season.

THE Fynnland Junior Soccer Club held its annual prize-giving ceremony at the Fynnland Combined Sports Club to celebrate the successes and commitment of the youngsters who performed well throughout the season.

The event brought into focus the commitment of the players and how they had improved. Club secretary Debbie Middleton said it has been a good year for the club, which had 176 registered players this season.

Middelton expressed pride in the players’ improvement and said, “Our players have shown wonderful improvement. Our goal at Fynnland is to develop junior-level soccer, keeping kids engaged on the field instead of in the street. Our senior players, who compete in the Hollywood Bets League, serve as role models for our juniors.”

The ceremony handed different players from the U9 to the U17 awards for various categories.

  • U9A: Khehelo Shozi
  • U9B: Matthew Mwangala
  • U9C: Cole Smith
  • U11: Nhlakanipho Simo (BB)
  • U13: Blake-Andrew Hodgkinson
  • U15: Lungelo Zondi
  • U17: Bhekamangwe Mazibuko

Player of the Year:

  • U9A: Yusuf Wang
  • U9B: Olivia O’Donoghue
  • U9C: Lazar Strydom
  • U11: Joshua Moster
  • U13: Molemogi Hlabyago
  • U15: Asiphile Mabaso
  • U17: Nkhosikhona Linganisa

Joshua who won the player of the year for the U11 was over-joyed by his win. “I feel so excited to have been awarded player of the year, getting this trophy motivates me to play and work harder to become even better. I really enjoy playing soccer,” he said.

Middleton added that Fynnland is not just a soccer club but a family. “Fynnland’s is a family club where we love and support each player,” she said.
