Colouring the community for a purpose

Around 2000 runners signed up to be apart of the Beds2Go 5km Colour Run which raised funds for the YESS organisation’s school programmes.

THE streets of Wentworth erupted into a kaleidoscope of colour as 2000 residents showed up for the Beds2go 5km Colour Run on July 25.

Team Stokes Fitness, working in collaboration with Rennies Panelbeaters, organised the event to raise money for the Youth Empowerment through Educational Support Services (Yess) organisation. The money raised would help Yess continue its work with children and young people.

A sight to see

Taariq Stokes, founder of Team Stokes Fitness, said it was an unforgettable sight to see so many participants at the starting line.

“It was an emotional moment for not just me but for everyone who was there. To see the whole community come together with unity and love, shows how powerful we are when we stand together,” said Stokes.

The runners started outside the Austerville SPAR and followed a route through Wentworth’s streets, ending at the Blue Roof Life Space. After crossing the finish line, the event continued the festivities. Parents could enjoy the music and grab something to eat or if they did not get enough steps in, they could join the workout class.

Investing in the community

Stokes attributed this success to the diligent work of the organising team and the support from their sponsors.

“Firstly, I would like to thank God for the opportunity. We would like to thank our major sponsor Beds2go for making the colour run possible. Furthermore, I would like to thank Rennies Panelbeaters for partnering up with us and being our sponsor to this event. We appreciate both businesses for their continued support in uplifting local communities through these events,” said Stokes.

A grateful Yess

Linda James, co-founder of Yess, said that her organisation readily accepted the partnership with Team Stokes Fitness, not only as a way to raise funds but also because it was a chance to unite the community. She commended both Team Stokes Fitness and Lornays Caterers for all the work they do and their commitment.

“Our main aim is to provide educational support to the young people of our community. We want to make education and clean-living fashionable among our young people, ensuring that they make healthy choices which will result in a positive benefit for our community’s future leaders,” said James.

Lana Crowie, Lynique Africa and Haley Boyles were happy to celebrate together at the finish line.

The colourful run not only encouraged health and fitness but also showcased how the community can come together for good.
