This achievement came after their participation in the second round of the Teach a Man to Fish South Africa initiative, where they also ranked in the top three in 2025 and 2026.

A head start

Principal Suneshika Moodley explained that the Market Day at Makabongwe Pre-School provided the learners a practical setting to apply the business skills they had been learning.

“This programme offers young learners a practical introduction to financial literacy and entrepreneurship. It teaches them about the value of money, saving and selling, while also fostering environmental awareness and enhancing their skills in mathematics, English and life skills,” said Moodley.

Using their creativity

She specifically commended teacher Toinette Belotti, who guided the programme at the school, for her creativity and commitment throughout the challenge.

“A huge congratulations to Toinette Belotti for leading the programme with her creative approach. She used donated rolls of brown paper to make gift bags, which were a tremendous success,” she said.

Moodley also expressed gratitude to the school’s staff, the Grade R learners and the parents for their dedication and support. She added that the project highlighted the strength of teamwork and community involvement.

“Remarkably, our efforts have reached as far as London, England and Honduras, South America,” she said.

Moodley is determined to return to the competition next year and leave with first place.
