Part 2 Amendment for the proposed development of an electrical bulk link cable, a switching station and a link sewer line at South Hills (Moffat Park) mixed-use development in Gauteng Province. APPLICANT: Calgro M3 (Pty) Ltd
PROPOSED ACTIVITY:
The proposed continuation of construction for the South Hills mixed-use development, by constructing two electrical bulk link cables and a switching station to meet the western side of the South Hills Developments electricity demand requirements. The bulk link cables will cross two non- perennial drainage lines (watercourses). the construction of a link sewer pipeline for the South Hills development. The link sewer will collect the sewerage from the internal sewer networks within the development. This ensures that every household will be provided with a waterborne sewer connection. The proposed amendment of the existing EA is due to the continuation of construction of the western side of the development. LOCATION: South Hills mixed-use development is located within the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, Gauteng Province, approximately 8 km south of the Johannesburg Central Business District. The development is situated to the south of the N17 National Route, with easy access to surrounding suburbs and arterial routes.
LEGISLATION:
In terms of Sections 24(2) and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act (Act No. 107 of 1998), as amended, read with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations of GNR 324 to 327 (2017), the following listed activities were authorised: GNR 327 Activity 19 and GN R 324 Activities 12, 14 and 23. These are still applicable. The proposed scope amendments require a Part 2 Amendment as per Chapter 5 of NEMA EIA Regulations of 2014, as amended.
A Water Use Licence is also required in terms of the National Water Act (Act No. 36 of 1998) as per Section 21 (c) and (i) water uses.
