NEWS JUST IN: 80 injured in train collision [VIDEO]
Swinton and Leicester Road are reportedly closed off to traffic due to train accident in Mobeni.
A HEAD-ON collision between two passenger trains has left about 80 people injured between Mobeni and Havenside.
After 3pm today, 23 June, ER24 paramedics were called to the scene and found one of the trains partially derailed and the other with severe damage to one of its coaches.
Train passengers were found either sitting or lying next to the train near the railway tracks, having got out shortly after the collision.
The injuries sustained ranged from lacerations, possible spinal injuries and soft tissue injuries.
A medical triage station was established on the scene where patients were assessed before they are removed from the site. Patients were transported to Prince Mshiyeni and Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospitals.
There are no reports of fatalities or critical injuries at the moment.
The exact cause of the collision is not yet known. Authorities are on the scene.
