SATURDAY, 6 APRIL: East Coast Stamp Fair hosts a gathering from 8am to 11am at the NG Kerk, left hand side end of Lighthouse Road, Bluff (and first Saturday of every month). Free valuations on your collections and plenty of bargains to be found. Call Bev on 083-679-4080.
SATURDAY, 6 APRIL: SAPS Montclair and CPF hosts its crime awareness day at Ramblers soccer field from 8am to 4pm. There will be police displays, entertainment and stalls for a fleamarket. SATURDAY, 6 APRIL: Bluff Methodist Church on the corner of Wesley and Pearce Roads (behind Mediclinic) holds a jumble sale as well as the sale of second hand goods from 7am to 9am. Good quality second-hand clothes for sale and a variety of second-hand electrical and kitchenware at reasonable prices. The aim is to assist the community.
SATURDAY, 6 APRIL: The Botanical Society of SA KZN Coastal branch hosts a visit to Cycad Centre Nursery in Umlaas Road, Camperdown from 10am to noon. Enjoy a guided tour by Avis Nel of her nursery, which not only specialises in cycads but in succulents and clivias too. Cycads bought come with a permit. Take a box to fill with plants. There will be a mini-market of country produce and wares by local artisan folk, including teas and snacks, for BotSoc’s benefit. SUNDAY, 7 APRIL: Every Sunday, the Visually Impaired Bowlers Association has its weekly bowling afternoon at Berea Bowling Club in Durban from 1pm to 4pm. Blind and partially sighted people who are prepared to join this association can look forward to an afternoon of fun and fellowship playing bowls. MONDAY, 8 APRIL: Yellowwood Conservancy meets on the second Monday of every month at 5.45pm at the boma site at Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve. There will be a bring and braai after the meeting. Free entrance to the reserve for the meeting. All who are interested in conservation and the environment are welcome.
MONDAY, 8 APRIL: The Botanical Society of SA KZN Coastal branch presents an illustrated talk and book launch: The Sand Forests of Maputaland at the Visitors Centre, Durban Botanic Gardens at 5.30pm for 6pm. Retired medical doctor Dr Francois du Randt will show the beautiful forests, birds and animals found in the sand forests of Maputaland including Ndumu, Kosi Bay, Sodwana Bay, Mkhuze Game Reserve, Phinda and other popular tourist destinations of north-eastern KZN. His new book will be available. The book is not only a 25-year long study of the unique plant life, but also a comprehensive natural history overview of 400 pages with 500 colour photos. Members pay R35, non-members R55, students/pupils R25 which includes refreshments at the start. Proceeds fund branch projects. All are welcome. No need to book. TUESDAY, 9 APRIL: The Botanical Society of SA KZN Coastal Branch hosts a guided walk: The Maputaland Sand Forest species of the Durban Botanic Gardens at the Durban Botanic Gardens indigenous forest section at 10.45am for 11am to noon. Dr Francois du Randt, author of the new book, The Sand Forests of Maputaland, published by SANBI, will lead a walk in the indigenous forest section of the Gardens, where some beautiful KZN sand forest tree species are showcased. Entry costs R30 for members, R50 for non-members, R20 for students/pupils. Proceeds go to branch projects. Booking is essential, as numbers are limited. TUESDAY, 9 APRIL: Montwood Senior Citizens Care Centre hosts a social meeting every Tuesday from 9am to noon at 199 Kenyon Howden Road, Tray Bang hall. A two-course lunch and refreshments are available for R25. Bingo is on the last Tuesday of each month. All seniors over 55 are welcome to join.
FRIDAY, 26 APRIL: Grosvenor Girls’ High School hosts its annual senior citizens tea party from 10am to noon. All seniors over 65 years are welcome. There is no charge. Call Heidi Traut on 083-790-2983.
