Eldorado Park father sentenced to life imprisonment

The Gauteng Division of the High Court in Johannesburg sentenced the accused after he pleaded guilty to the charges in terms of Section 112(2) of the Criminal Procedure Act.

A 34-year-old father from Eldorado Park has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder and rape of his four-year-old daughter, as well as the assault of his three-year-old son.

The Gauteng Division of the High Court in Johannesburg sentenced the accused after he pleaded guilty to the charges in terms of Section 112(2) of the Criminal Procedure Act.

State Advocate Charlene Mack accepted the plea on behalf of the State.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole said that, in his plea statement, the accused admitted to repeatedly hitting and biting his four-year-old daughter before drowning her in a bath, resulting in her death.

Mohlatlole further stated that the accused also admitted to raping the child on August 6, 2025.

He said that, in a separate incident on March 13, 2025, the accused assaulted his three-year-old son.

“The court sentenced him to life imprisonment for murder, life imprisonment on two counts of rape, four years’ imprisonment for two counts of child abuse, and six months’ imprisonment for assault and resisting arrest,” said Mohlatlole.

According to Mohlatlole, in determining the sentence, the court considered the seriousness of the offences and found that the accused’s guilty plea did not necessarily demonstrate genuine remorse.

He said the court also rejected the accused’s explanation that drugs had contributed to his actions, finding it unconvincing.

The court further considered the severity of the attacks on the children and concluded that the accused posed a danger to society.

The children’s 32-year-old mother, who is the accused’s co-accused, will stand trial separately after pleading not guilty to the charges against her.

Her case has been postponed to February 2027. She faces charges including murder, child abuse and failure to report sexual offences.

The identities of both accused cannot be disclosed to protect the identity of the surviving child.

The NPA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children from abuse, violence and exploitation.

The NPA said crimes against children were a grave violation of their rights and dignity, adding that it would continue to prosecute perpetrators and pursue justice for vulnerable victims to ensure that those who prey on children face the full might of the law.
