“It will not be accepted’

Service delivery protest has gotten this informal settlement up in arms.

Angry residents of Kathrada Park are up in arms with the delivery of houses in the area.-

“I have been living here for the past 12 years and we haven’t received anything,” said Mimi Malindi.-

Dan Bovu MMC of Housing visited the area, has admitted that his department has made a mistake with the housing delivery in the area.-

“Yes we have made mistakes regarding to the allocations of houses but we are working to resolve this,” said Bovu.-

When the project started in 2004 there were structures of incomplete houses but due to the lack of budget that ended in 2005.-

Some residents have made a decision to move into these houses and complete them out of their own pockets.-

“We had to go and apply for a loan just to complete this house.-

“I have children I have to think of because when we were staying in a flat with eight other people, no one can live like that, said Deddie Kruger.-

The delivery of houses in the area has been going on for the past ten years according to residents. –

”The development doesn’t just involve houses but planning of a township and roads.”-

“Residents to be patient as these things take time,” said Bovu.-

Bouv has vowed to meet with residents that have allegedly invaded those Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) houses before they will be removed.-

“We have no choice but to remove the people that has invaded,” said Bovu.-

“We are we going to with our children,” said Kruger.“We have moved into these house for the past two years and ever since we moved and finished these house, they are jealous,” said Royston Swarts-

Racism tension has started developing in the informal settlement.-

“I can see that racism is rear its ugly face here in Kathrada Park and it will not be accepted.-

“We will have to come and sort this out before it gets out of hand,” said Bovu.-

“The people that are occupying our houses are from Westbury and not from Kathrada,” said Buyi Nyide.-

“We come from South Africa this is also our land,” said Swartz.
