'Enough is enough'

Protesters go on the rampage.

Prepaid water meter installations are upsetting Pimville.

Residents are tired of talking and they say enough is enough. Traffic came to a standstill last Friday when ongoing protests become violent.

Stones, dustbins, bricks and anything protestors could use to block Chris Hani Road were used that morning.

Residents say they are now tired of talking.

The situation in Pimville has been tense since Wednesday night as the protest started then.

Ward 22 councillor Lizzy Mabaso said: “I am not sure why they are protesting as no one is forced to have pre-paid water meters in their houses.”

“I personally think it is a political thing because we arrange consultation meetings, residents attend these meetings and then there are protests,” she said.

Mabaso said 20 young people were hired by Joburg Water from both wards and a door-to-door campaign was done and those who wanted the installations signed up and those that didn’t want it, didn’t sign up.

“No one is forced to have these installations in their houses.

“Why violate people’s rights?” she said.
